Walk on Dartmoor

Landscape photograph of Meldon reservoir on Dartmoor

We had a little walk on Dartmoor recently. Family life has been a little busy lately, so we decided to take some time out and take a short walk near the Meldon reservoir.

A simple change of scenery helps combat stress and recharge the batteries, plus all the beauty surrounding us helps revitalise us and our inspiration.

We were so lucky to see a herd of Dartmoor ponies as well – and I was so glad to have brought my camera with me, because the sweetest little foal was feeling brave and curious and came to say ‘hello!’ We stayed to watch them for a while, keeping our distance but close enough to see them enjoying a bit of afternoon sunshine. They are such beautiful animals, and I plan to draw from some of the photos I took.

We found a few plants that we don’t see near our home – the tiny yellow flowers of tormentil and pink lousewort, and my daughter loved the cotton grass. The may blossom was still out, and the yellow flowers of gorse and birdsfoot trefoil.

Near the car park we found pretty pink purslane flowers, which we have never seen before.

We came home rejuvenated and inspired, ready for school, the final days of exams, and all the other things family life throws at you from time to time. We are lucky to be surrounded by such beauty.

I will be adding some of my photos to my flower and nature photography pages soon.
