I love to draw fur and wet noses and one of the nicest compliments I have ever received for my animal portraits was that the client felt they could almost feel their fingers in the dog in the picture’s fur! I really enjoy the final stages of an animal portrait, when I finish the eyes and nose – the drawing seems to come alive.
Although I usually work from photographs, I aim to capture more than just a likeness of the pet in the drawings I create – I want to portray the spirit of the animal, that expression that makes them who they are.
