I might not be a professional photographer but I do enjoy photography and have studied it during my art and design education. I hope however, that I have captured at least a little of the beauty of Devon’s spring wild flowers in my photographs.
I take my camera on my walks with our dog through the North Devon countryside near my home and particularly enjoy taking pictures of the wildflowers in the hedgerows and fields. I come back from these walks feeling inspired, invigorated and happy.
(I would love to be able to capture photos of the animals I see too – for example the hare we saw lolloping across a field the other morning – so beautiful – but I am not quick enough and don’t have the skills for that!).
Here is a little video showing some photographs of the Devon spring wild flowers we came across during May – the most stunning month for wildflowers in my opinion. I love the blues in the speedwells especially – so many shades.
I have a couple of commissions to finish, but I am hoping to have some creative fun drawing and painting the wild flowers from these photographs. Pastel is always my favourite media, but I am thinking of using acrylics as well. I am uncertain as to whether I will continue to use acrylics into the future – my pastels are sustainable and I work on recycled paper with them, but acrylics are not environmentally friendly. I will use up what I have (because they are fun to use and I might as well finish them). I hate the thought of anything plastic we use getting into the environment – as a family we are very careful about minimising our use of plastic and recycling and reusing what we can. Art materials included!
